Type locality, off Durban harbor (Cossyphus nigromaculatu); Durban market (Chaeropsodes pictus) (Ref. 35918). Occurs in Natal (Ref. 4392). Large specimens are common at Sodwana Bay (Ref. 4392). Angling record: 3.5 kg; spearfishing record: 7.2 kg (Ref. 12484). Also Ref. 5213.
